About Vegan Restaurant F

Let me introduce you to Vegan Restaurant F, a cozy vegan restaurant tucked away in Kyoto at Japan, 〒600-8178 Kyoto, Shimogyo Ward, Kagiyacho, 327-2, a spot I always bring up when someone asks me where to find plant-based food with real personality. From the moment you step inside, the vibe feels relaxed and welcoming, the kind of place where you can slow down, breathe, and actually enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. Vegan Restaurant F focuses on thoughtful vegan cooking, yet it also feels inclusive, so whether you’re fully vegan, vegetarian, or just curious, it’s easy to feel at home here. I like how the dine-in experience encourages you to settle in, sip something warm, and take your time with the food. The menu offers a satisfying range of vegan and vegetarian options, and it’s nice to see drinks taken seriously too, with choices like coffee for a daytime visit and alcohol options such as beer and wine when you’re in the mood for something more social. Because of that balance, Vegan Restaurant F works equally well for a quiet solo lunch or a relaxed meet-up with friends. The atmosphere pairs nicely with the offerings, creating a space that feels casual but still intentional. What stands out to me most is how naturally everything fits together-the location in Kyoto, the calm vegan restaurant setting, and the simple yet appealing selection of food and drinks. It doesn’t try too hard to impress, and that’s part of its charm. Instead, Vegan Restaurant F lets the experience speak for itself, making it a place people tend to remember and recommend. When I talk about it, I usually describe it as one of those spots that feels genuine, where plant-based dining is presented as something enjoyable and approachable rather than a statement, which makes it especially appealing for both locals and visitors exploring Kyoto’s food scene.

Reservation only and we booked for two of the Chef's Choice meals - it was wonderful. In total we received 6 plates - everything was delicious. The price was very fair and honestly cheap by American standards, considering what we got. The service was great - the host/waitress was watching us like a hawk to see when we were done with our food and ready for the next round. It was definitely one of the best meals we had in Japan and I highly recommend it!

Beautiful little restaurant run by a very lovely couple. Amazing vegan food and very reasonable price. Make sure you book by 5pm on the day you wish to go - there are no walk-ins. They were very responsive on instagram - just translate your message into Japanese for them. Highly recommend this place. Get the 5 courses!

Our most delicious vegan experience in Japan so far! Only two diner options: Chef’s special and Chef’s special light. We had the 5 course special and all 5 were very tasteful and gorgeous!

Absolutely fantastic vegan food! The soup was truly delicious – so flavorful and comforting. I also really enjoyed the main course and the side dish; both were very good. Highly recommend Vegan F for anyone looking for excellent plant-based cuisine!

Incredible experience. A small caffe ran by a lovely couple who welcome foreigners. A few places in kyoto clearly didn’t welcome foreigners. The food was delicious and the presentation incredible. We had dinner and then went back for lunch next day as it was our last day in Kyoto. It didn’t disappoint!!! Highly recommend this place! Dinner was ¥5,000 per person and lunch was ¥2,000

The most delicious meal I’ve had on my 2 trips to Japan. The lunch meal set is full of flavor, creativity, and thoughtfulness. The restaurant owner is also incredibly kind and welcoming. I will dream about this food forever!

A divine dining experience! Don’t think, just book a table. We were blown away by the quality of food at this peaceful little vegan restaurant. We got the full “chef’s choice” set menu and we thought it was excellent value. Several courses, one of them an “appetizer platter” with lots of little tasters of different things including vegan cheeses they make here… every single thing delicious. Pasta dish was perfectly done. The main course featuring a homemade bean-patty and croquette and roasted veg was also delicious. Ah and a wonderful pumpkin soup! And unique desserts! Even the homemade ginger ale was incredible. The host is lovely and attentive, I believe the chef is her husband and it almost feels like they’re hosting you for dinner in their own home. Very cozy and friendly. The cherry on top: upon leaving we learned you could purchase their vegan cheeses to take home and we excitedly grabbed one for our long train ride the next day. (They packed it perfectly with a mini ice pack to pop in our hotel fridge overnight.) This is probably the best vegan cheese we’ve ever had, and we have tried countless in our 10+ years of veganism. Thank you to our wonderful hosts for a memorable final dinner in Japan!

I have been to many vegan restaurants during my stay in Kyoto and I think this one was surely one of the best ones. I always came for lunch (so don't know about their dinner set up) but the lunch sets are absolutely amazing. Not only do they look pretty, they are also delicious. The sets come with soup and salad, and as a main you can choose from three options (if I remember correctly). I always took the mixed plate and it never dissappointed. The dessert plate was also really nice.
